1987 Buick Regal Grand National
The Buick Regal Turbo models have a huge following and deservedly so. They were the fastest American production cars of their day, and the coveted GNX model brings outrageous money in today’s market. This one is the lesser known, but still valuable Turbo-T WE4 “lightweight” package and this example appears to be in great condition for the mileage.
There were only 1,547 Regals built with the WE4 package in 1987, compared to 20,194 Grand Nationals produced in that model year. The WE4 was faster than their GN sibling, pulling mid-13 second 1/4 mile times while the GN was finishing the sprint a full second later. The only differences between a WE4 and the Grand National were the interior color, aluminum wheels, exterior badges, aluminum bumper supports, and aluminum rear brake drums, as opposed to the Grand National’s rear spoiler, cast-iron drums, and steel wheels and bumper supports, making the WE4 basically a lightweight GN. At some point this car had a dealer-installed spoiler added.
